Chapel Hill Historical Society hosts benefit

The Historical Society’s third annual benefit, “An Evening with the Oldest Living Confederate Widow”, will be held on Sunday, April 26, from 5-7:30pm at the Carolina Inn. The program will feature a presentation of The Oldest Living Confederate Widow: Her Confession, one-woman play based on the novel by Allan Gurganus. Co-authored by Gurganus and Jane Holding, the play is a vivid portrait of Lucy Marsden, the 99-year old widow of America’s last surviving Civil War soldier. UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp and his wife, Patti, will lead the audience in a sing-along of Civil War-era songs. Admission is $50. Proceeds go toward funding the Society’s programs and grants. Advance tickets available at the Carrboro Arts Center. Reservations can be requested by calling 929-1793.
