ART NOTES: In the Galleries

Cedars, by Jacob Cooley, on display at Eno Gallery this month

At The ArtsCenter this month, puppets from the Paperhand Puppet Intervention are on display July 2-31. A reception will be held during the 2ndFriday Artwalk on July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.

In Hillsborough, Eno Gallery’s upper gallery is featuring Jacob Cooley’s landscape paintings and Donna Polseno’s ceramic figurative sculptures this month. In the lower gallery, the work of ceramic artist Nick Joerling is on display. A reception will be held for both exhibitions on June 29 from 6 to 9 p.m., and the exhibitions will be on display through Aug. 25.

The Community Church of Chapel Hill Unitarian Universalist will present an exhibit of art from the Zimbabwe Artists Project July 1-Sept. 2. The project celebrates the artistry and accomplishments of women from rural Weya in eastern Zimbabwe.

At the UNC Friday Center this summer, the public is invited to view amateur photography from around the world in an exhibition featuring works by UNC students, faculty, staff and alumni. The images – depicting everything from the majesty of Mount Everest to the joy of friendship among Indian women – capture our common links of humanity and draw attention to subjects often neglected by conventional media.

At the Ackland Museum Store, “Earthly Delights: Pottery and Textiles,” a show featuring the work of potter Joseph Sand and textile artist Sondra Dorn, is on display through Aug. 4. Both artists exhibit in their creations a deep devotion to the natural world.

“Give Me Wings,” an exhibit featuring depictions of various winged creatures, is on display at FRANK July 10-Sept. 5. An opening reception will be held July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m.
