Documentary on Rwanda, foregiveness

The All Saints Church of Chapel Hill/Durham will screen As We Forgive, an award-winning documentary about two Rwandan women facing the men who slaughtered their families during the 1994 genocide. The documentary explores forgiveness and reconciliation through the lives of these neighbors on opposite sides of a genocidal bloodbath, and their extraordinary journey from death to life through forgiveness. The film will be followed by a panel discussion exploring the themes of forgiveness and reconciliation featuring individuals affected by the genocide and members of the local community. April 3, 7 p.m. at Extraordinary Ventures, 200 S. Elliot Road. Free.

SCREENING: Arusi Persian Wedding

Arusi Persian Wedding, a fillm by Marjan Tehrani, captures the struggle and excitement of Alex and Heather as they plan a Persian Islamic wedding in Iran. But when Alex’s Iranian-born parents and Heather’s conservative American father meet for the first time, cultures clash and test the couple to its limits. Thurs., Feb. 12, 7pm in the Side Room of the Open Eye in Carrboro.

“Walls that Bleed” showing at UNC

“Walls that Bleed”, a documentary chronicling an student-led uprising at Dudley High School and North Carolina A&T in Greensboro that helped shape the state’s civil rights movement, will be shown at 6 p.m. on Feb. 3. A reception will precede the film at 5:30 p.m., and panel discussion will follow. All events will be held in the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building at 325 Pittsboro St. Though free and open to the public, reservations are requested. Please RSVP to Cookie Newsom at newsom@email.unc.edu.
