Scouting reports

Scout: Gidi Avrahami [gidi@alumni.stanford.org]

Made his name during the 1998 NCAA tournament when his super-clutch performances helped the Cardinal reach the Final Four. Faded a bit in 1998-99, when expectations were much higher both for himself and the team. Doesn't have the quickness or skills of an NBA starting PG, but his poise, smarts, and cold-blooded three-point shots could get him a backup job. From what I heard, he didn't do particularly well at the Phoenix pre-draft camp; most likely to be no higher than a late-second-round pick, and will have to work hard earn a roster spot.

Scout: Ryan Fortson [fortson@leland.Stanford.EDU]

If Lee had come out last year, he probably would have been a mid to late first round pick, with people thinking of him as another Brevin Knight. Those comparisons no longer seem apt. He does not have the floor leadership of Knight and does not have the athleticism to overcome those deficiencies. Too often, his lack of leadership this year would result in Stanford falling behind for much of the game. Then in the last few minutes, Arthur Lee would wake up and at least put the team in contention again. This will not cut it in the NBA, where most teams are too good to allow big leads to be easily erased. Lee needs to play the entire game like time is running out on his team. If he can play with that kind of intensity, then he might have a shot at being a back-up point guard. If not, then at least he has a Stanford degree to fall back upon. I expect him to be taken mid to late second round.
