Good size, decent skills, not enough muscle
and quickness. Sat out the 95-96 season with a bad back. Basically a soft player who only
rarely asserted himself in the paint. His size will get him a job in the NBA, but he'll
need to step up the intensity or he'll get pushed around. Probably a second rounder to a
team that's desperate for size. |

Tim Young is a sign of how bad centers have
become in the NBA today. He might be drafted late in the first round and could probably
become a servicable back-up center. This should not be the case. His best attribute is his
ability to shoot from outside and his surprisingly good foul shooting, all of which is to
damn with faint praise. Despite his height, he does not provide a credible inside
presence. He is not particularly strong, though I suppose I would not classify him as a
beanpole either. He seems to have decent mobility, but never really uses it to his
advantage. His worst attribute is that he ALWAYS gets in foul trouble. If he had this kind
of trouble in college, imagine what things will be like in the pros when he actually goes
up against decent competition. Then again, many of the centers in the NBA are lik Young in
their lack of skill. If a team is looking for a few fouls at center and maybe someone who
can draw the opposing center out of the lane (assuming the zone defense is kept illegal),
then Young might be OK. Do not, though, expect much of what one would normally draft a
center for. |
