Located in a National Register of Historic Places District, the museum is housed in an elegantly simple Greek Revival building. Other museum buildings include the Old Jail (1848), Train Depot (1901)  and a modern Carriage House.

 
The museum holds in trust for current and future generations over 5,000 objects,  20,000 documents, over 400,000 photos which span the period from the 1500s through the 20th Century (shown above).  As a federally designated 501c3 organization, the museum gratefully accepts donations to support its exhibits, programs, research, preservation and public interpretation.
 
See heart of pine floors and walls, handmade bricks, and window glass created when Cotton was King, Franklin Pierce was President, and blue jeans were brand new.
 
Discover how an elegantly simple brick Greek Revival style building - constructed as a hotel in 1852 - has been adapted for travelers and visitors of today!
 
It's easy to explore our National Register of Historic Places District. Within easy walking distance you can see the 1848 Jail, a Train Depot, and the original Gaston County Courthouse. A walking tour of the historic square is available at the museum.
