    Jeannette Arctic Expedition, 1879-1881


    Russian railway car which carried the remains of expedition members who died in the Lena River Delta, Siberia, in the Autumn of 1881. Photographed in late January 1884, as the dead were being transported from Orenburg to the Russo-German frontier, en route to the United States for final burial.
