    At Hickam Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii, after the President's arrival in mid-October 1950. President Truman was en route to Wake Island for a conference with General of the Army Douglas MacArthur that began on 15 October.

    Secretary Matthews was visiting Navy units involved in Korean War operations.
    Note his leather flight helmet and inflatable life vest.
