    U.S. Army and Republic of Korea Navy personnel crowd the rails as the transport docks at Seattle, Washington, after a voyage from the Far East. The ROK Navy men were brought to the U.S. to crew several U.S. Navy ships being transferred to Korea.
    Note metal life boat on davits in center, with grab rails on its hull.
    Photograph is dated 18 January 1952.

    Chief Storekeeper (SKC) Bang Won Lee
    , Republic of Korea Navy (right)

    Receives the "lowdown" on American customs from Chief Boatswain's Mate Henderson F. Lindsey, on board USNS Marine Phoenix (T-AP-195) as the transport nears Seattle, Washington. SKC Lee is one of 27 officers and 147 enlisted men of the ROK Navy sent to the U.S. to man four ships transferred to Korea.

    USS Valley Forge (CV-45)


    The first of a flight of eight Bell HTL-3 helicopters rise from the carrier's flight deck, off the Japanese coast, circa early January 1953. Valley Forge transported these aircraft to the Far East for use in evacuating Korean War battle casualties.
    The original photo is dated 3 January 1953. Its caption stated that this "was the largest mass take-off of helicopters in the history of Naval aviation".
