Ormoc Bay Landings, December 1944

A Mahan class destroyer bombards the objective area during landings on the shores of Ormoc Bay, Leyte, 7 December 1944.
This ship is one of several Mahan class destroyers, wearing Camouflage Measure 31, Design 23d, that participated in this operation. "History of United States Naval Operations in World War II", Volume XII, includes this image captioned as Lamson (DD-367) entering Ormoc Bay. However, the original print in the illustrations package for that book also features a handwritten note stating that the ship is "probably Drayton" (DD-366).

Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
