USS Salmon (Submarine # 19)
William D. Crowell, an architect from St. Louis, Missouri, standing
on deck, while Salmon was cruising out of Newport, Rhode
Island, in October 1911.
Mr. Crowell gave this photograph to Admiral Chester W. Nimitz
in 1944, in reminiscence of the "old days". Nimitz,
who commanded the submarine's "mother ship" at the
time, had invited him on the cruise.
