View atop the upper deck, looking aft from amidships on the port side. Taken at the Mare Island Navy Yard, California, in 1931, probably at the time of her commissioning.
Note motor launches, boat crane and tripod mainmast. Guns at right are 5"/25s, with their ready-service ammunition lockers inboard.
Ex-USS Thompson (DD-305) is in the right background, being stripped for scrap.
