Halftone reproduction of a photograph taken circa 1943-1945.
Built in 1908 as the German passenger liner George Washington, this ship served as USS George Washington (ID # 3018) in 1917-1919 and as USS Catlin (AP-19) in 1941. She was refitted with new oil-fired boilers and a single smokestack, as seen here, in 1942-1943.
