Chief Gunner's Mate Frank W. Crilley, in diving suit, standing by a recompression chamber installed on the ship's deck, during deep diving tests conducted in Long Island Sound in late October and early November 1914. This photo may have been taken on 23 or 26 October, both days when Crilley made dives.
Note laced canvas overalls, diving manifold, test tank, air lines, connections and pressure gages (that in left center is graduated to 150 pounds per square inch) and boat davit (at left).
