USS Cleveland (Cruiser # 19)
Ship's Officers and Crew pose on her fore deck, circa 1918-1919,
possibly while she was in Cuban or Honduran waters.
The Sailor in the center of the image, in front of and just to
the left of the pilot house's middle window (with his right arm
in an "L" shape) is Fred Dewey Francis, Sr.
Note the capstan and life ring in the foreground, and splinter
mats placed around the ship's bridge and pilot house.
Donation of Mrs. Aileen F. Rice, 2005, from the collection of
her father, Fred Dewey Francis, Sr. (1898-1929).
