"Great White Fleet World Cruise, 1907-1909


The Fleet's naval brigade landing at Port Melbourne Town Pier, Australia, on 31 August 1908, prior to marching to the city of Melbourne.
The steam launch and other boats in the foreground are from USS Vermont (Battleship # 20). The Sailors, also presumably from USS Vermont, are armed with Krag-Jorgensen rifles and are equipped with cartridge belts, canteens and bayonets.
Large ship in the right distance is HMS Powerful (British protected cruiser, 1897).
