Frederick Boyer, subject of one of the earliest known portraits of a U.S. Navy enlisted man, served in the ship of the line USS Ohio while she was receiving ship at the Boston Navy Yard during the early 1840s. A contemporary described him as having had "Twenty years in the Navy".
