Lieutenant (Junior Grade) Mary Ella Moffett, Nurse Corps, USN (In service, 1912-1934)

Mary Ella Moffett was born on 1 November 1883 and graduated from nurses' training at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1906. Appointed to the Navy Nurse Corps in December 1912, she subsequently served at several Naval Hospitals. She was promoted to Chief Nurse in 1923. Following duty at the Naval Hospital, Pearl Harbor, Chief Nurse Moffett retired from the Navy in August 1934. She received the retirement rank of Lieutenant (Junior Grade) when Navy Nurses were included in the Navy's ranking system during World War II.
