Agwidale (American Freighter, 1918).
Served as USS Agwidale (ID # 4464) in 1918-1919

Agwidale, a 5080 gross ton freighter, was built at Newport News, Virginia, in 1918. She was taken over by the Navy after completion and placed in commission in November 1918 as USS Agwidale (ID # 4464). Though the First World War had just ended, the ship was assigned to the Naval Overseas Transportation Service and made two round-trip voyages to Europe, the first in December 1918-February 1919 and the second in February-April. Decommissioned soon after the end of the second trip, Agwidale was returned to the U.S. Shipping Board. She subsequently began a long career as a commercial cargo ship and was so-employed through the end of World War II. Agwidale was sold to Chinese owners in 1946.

This page features our only views of the freighter Agwidale and of USS Agwidale (ID # 4464).
