Albatross (American Motor Boat, 1912).
Served as USS Albatross (SP-1003) and USS SP-1003 in 1917-1919

Albatross, a 39-foot motor boat, was built in 1912 at East Boothbay, Maine, for use as a pleasure craft. Leased by the Navy and placed in commission in June 1917 as USS Albatross (SP-1003), she spent the rest of World War I performing section patrol duties for the First Naval District. To prevent confusion with another Navy ship of the same name, in 1918 she was renamed SP-1003. The boat was returned to her owner at the beginning of May 1919.

This page features our only view of the motor boat Albatross, which was USS Albatross (SP-1003) and USS SP-1003 in 1917-1919.
