Bessie (American Barge, 1899).
Had U.S. Navy service in 1917-1919 as Bessie (SP-1755), SP-1755 and Coal Barge # 514

Bessie, a 338 gross ton barge, was built at Gildersleeve, Connecticut, in 1899. At the beginning of November 1917, while she was owned by McWilliams Brothers of New York City, she was taken over by the Navy and placed in service as Bessie (SP-1755). Her name was changed to SP-1755 in April 1918 and later to Coal Barge # 514. Following nearly two years of Navy use, she was returned to her owner in late October 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning the barge Bessie, which had U.S. Navy service as Bessie (SP-1755), SP-1755 and Coal Barge # 514 in 1917-1919.
