S.S. Cacique, a 6202 gross ton commerical freighter, was built in 1910 at Sunderland, England. In August 1918, when she was owned by the New York and Pacific Steamship Company of New York City, the ship was turned over to the Navy and placed in commission as USS Cacique (ID # 2213). Serving under the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, she made two round trip voyages between the U.S. and France during the remainder of World War I and the first months after the November 1918 Armistice. Cacique was decommissioned in March 1919 and returned, via the U.S. Shipping Board, to her owners.
This page features our only view of the freighter Cacique, which served as USS Cacique (ID # 2213) in 1918-1919.
