S.S. Carrillo (American Passenger-Cargo Steamship, 1911).
Served as USS Carrillo (ID # 1406) in 1918-1919

Carolinian, a 5012 gross ton passenger-cargo steamer, was built at Belfast, Ireland, in 1911. In September 1918 she was acquired by the Navy and placed in commission as USS Carrillo (ID # 1406). During the remainder of World War I, and for some months after the November 1918 Armistice, she made four trans-Atlantic round-trip voyages, carrying food and other cargo in support of U.S. forces in France. The ship was decommissioned in late April 1919 and returned to the U.S. Shipping Board in May. During the next two and a half decades, Carrillo was employed in commercial trade as part of the United Fruit Company's fleet of refrigerated cargo ships. She was laid up in the Maritime Commission's Hudson River Reserve Fleet in June 1947 and sold for scrapping in March 1948.

This page features all the views we have concerning the steamship Carrillo, which served as USS Carrillo (ID # 1406) in 1918-1919.
