Christiana (American Barge, 1901).
Became U.S. Navy Coal Barge # 426 in 1918

Christiana, a 363 gross ton barge, was built at Elkton, Maryland, in 1901. In March 1918, when she was owned by the Southern Transportation Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was inspected by the Fifth Naval District for possible Naval acquisition and assigned the registry ID # 2396. Christiana was ordered taken over in May 1918 and reportedly subsequently was renamed Coal Barge # 426 while in Navy hands. Her Naval service appears to have ended by the Fall of 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning the barge Christiana, which became the U.S. Navy's Coal Barge # 426 in 1918.
