Concrete Barge # 1 (American Open Lighter, 1918).
Was the U.S. Navy Coal Barge # 516 in 1918-1919

Concrete Barge # 1, a 650-ton (cargo capacity) open barge, was built in 1918 by C. Blankeley of Yonkers, New York. She was inspected by the Third Naval District in April 1918 and assigned Navy registry ID # 2531. Chartered in September of that year, she was renamed Coal Barge # 516 during her Navy service, which ended when she was returned to her owner in October 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning Concrete Barge # 1, which was U.S. Navy Coal Barge # 516 in 1918-1919.

Concrete Barge # 1
(American open barge, 1918)

Possibly photographed when inspected by the Third Naval District on 5 April 1918. She was assigned registry ID # 2531.
This barge, chartered by the Navy in September 1918, was returned to her owner on 28 October 1919. While in Navy service she was known as Coal Barge # 516.
