S.S. Corozal (American Freighter, 1911)
Served as USS Corozal in 1918-1919

Corozal, a 3063 gross ton freighter, was built in 1911 at Newport News, Virginia. She was turned over to the U.S. Navy in March 1918 and commissioned later in that month as USS Corozal (with no registry ID # assigned then, or later). During the rest of that year the ship made three voyages to France with coal and other cargo. A fourth such trip took place in January-March 1919. USS Corozal was decommissioned in late April 1919 and returned to her owners, the New York & Porto Rico Steamship Company, of New York City. Returned to commercial service, she operated through World War II and was sold to Chinese interests in 1946.

This page features the only view we have concerning the freighter Corozal, which was USS Corozal in 1918-1919.
