Charles P. Kuper, a 51 gross ton wooden harbor tug, was built in 1892 by Browne of Tottenville, New York. She was chartered by the Navy in August 1917 and subsequently served in the New York Harbor area as USS Charles P. Kuper (SP-1235). The tug was returned to her owner, the Simmons Transportation Company of New York City, in mid-1919.
