Curacao (American Oil Barge, 1917).
Was U.S. Navy Fuel Oil Barge # 36 and YO-36 in 1918-1921

Curacao, a 1961.6 gross ton wooden oil barge, was built by T.M. Farve of Gulfport, Mississippi, in 1917. She was assigned Navy registry ID # 2269. Despite a very negative report made in early 1918 ("This barge is not oil tight and is poorly constructed - these being cited in this report how two other barges built by the same company proved failures. By Bureau recommendation made 1/18/18 that this barge be used for some other purpose than oil carrier"), she was taken into service as Fuel Oil Barge # 36 and employed at Bermuda and Charleston, South Carolina. In mid-1920 she was renamed YO-36. Ordered appraised for sale in December of that year, the barge was sold in August 1921.

This page features the only view we have concerning the barge Curacao, which was U.S. Navy Fuel Oil Barge # 36 and YO-36 in 1918-1921.
