Diascond (American Barge, 1896).
Was U.S. Navy Coal Barge # 425 (ID # 2385) in 1918-1919

Diascond, a 373 gross ton barge, was built in 1896 at Elkton, Maryland. In May 1918, while owned by the Southern Transportation Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was ordered taken over by the Navy. Assigned Identification Number 2385, she served as U.S. Navy Coal Barge # 425 until returned to her owner sometime prior to the autumn of 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning the barge Diascond, which was the U.S. Navy's Coal Barge # 425 (ID # 2385) in 1918-1919.

Diascond

In port, possibly when inspected by the Fifth Naval District on 11 March 1918.
Built at Elkton, Maryland, in 1896, Diascond was owned by the Southern Transportation Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Assigned the registry ID # 2385, she was ordered to be taken over by the Navy on 4 May 1918. Renamed Coal Barge # 425 while in naval service, she was presumably returned to her owner sometime in 1919.
