Edith II, a 50-foot motor pleasure boat, was built in 1917 by the Great Lakes Boat Building Corporation. She was leased by the Navy from Carnot M. Ward of Whippany, New Jersey, and placed in commission in May 1917 as USS Edith II (SP-296). Her name was changed to SP-296 about a year later, while she was serving on World War I patrol duties. The boat was returned to her owner early in 1919.
This page features the only views we have concerning the motor boat Edith II, which served as USS Edith II (SP-296) and USS SP-296 in 1917-1919.
