Elizabeth (American Motor Boat).
Served as USS Elizabeth (SP-1092) and USS SP-1092 in 1917-1918

Elizabeth, a 55-foot motor pleasure boat built by the Gulf Fisheries Company of Galveston, Texas. Acquired by the U.S. Navy in October 1917 from her owner, W.L. Moody, Jr., of Galveston, she was placed in commission as USS Elizabeth (SP-1092) and later renamed SP-1092. For the remainder of World War I, she operated in the waters of the Eighth Naval District. The craft was wrecked at the mouth of the Brazos River, near Freeport, Texas, on 15 November 1918.

This page features the only view we have concerning the motor boat Elizabeth, which served as USS Elizabeth (SP-1092) and USS SP-1092 in 1917-1918.

Photographed prior to her U.S. Navy service.
Built by the Gulf Fisheries Company of Galveston, Texas, and owned by W.L. Moody, Jr., of Galveston, this pleasure craft was taken over by the Navy for World War I service on or about 2 November 1917. Commissioned as USS Elizabeth (SP-1092) and later renamed SP-1092, she was wrecked near Freeport, Texas, on 15 November 1918.
