Emeline (American Steam Yacht, 1898).
Previously named Katoomba and Rivera. Later named Katharine R.
Served as USS Emeline (SP-175) in 1917-1920

Katoomba, a 407 gross ton steam yacht, was built in 1898 by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company at Grenock, Scotland. She was renamed Rivera and Emeline during the next two decades. In June 1917 the U.S. Navy purchased the yacht from her then-owner, Robert Graves of New York City, and a month later placed her in commission as USS Emeline (SP-175). Sent across the Atlantic to western France in August 1917, she was employed on patrol and convoy escort missions during the rest of World War I. In May 1919, after returning to the U.S., Emeline was decommissioned. She was sold in September 1920 and delivered to her new owner, R.J. Robinson of San Diego, California, in October.

This page features the only views we have concerning the steam yacht Emeline, which served as USS Emeline (SP-175) in 1917-1920.
