S.S. Herman Frasch (American Freighter, 1910)
Served as USS Herman Frasch (ID # 1617) in 1918.

Herman Frasch, a 3803 gross ton (9000 tons displacement) bulk cargo carrier, was built in 1910 at Quincy, Massachusetts, for the Union Sulpher Co. (of which Frasch was president). She was commissioned at New York in September 1918 as USS Herman Frasch (ID # 1617). On 1 October the ship sailed from New York for Sidney, Nova Scotia, where she was to join a convoy that was to depart for Europe on 7 October. Shortly after midnight on 4 October USS Herman Frasch collided off the Nova Scotia coast with the tanker USS George G. Henry (ID # 1560) and sank in seven minutes.

This page features the only view we have concerning the American freighter Herman Frasch, which became USS Herman Frasch (ID # 1617) in 1918.
