Joseph F. Bellows (U.S. Fishing Vessel, 1912).
Served in 1917-1919 as USS Joseph F. Bellows (SP-323).
Also called Bellows

Joseph F. Bellows, a 315 gross ton "Menhaden Fisherman" type fishing vessel, was built in 1912 at Pocomoke City, Maryland. Acquired by the Navy early in World War I, she was placed in commission in mid-May 1917 as USS Joseph F. Bellows (SP-323). That name was formally shortened to Bellows by a July 1917 Navy General Order, but the longer form also continued in use. During the remainder of the "Great War" she served as a minesweeper in the vicinity of lower Chesapeake Bay. Her function changed to lightship tender and supply vessel after the 11 November 1918 armistice. The ship was sold in early July 1919.

This page features the only view we have concerning the fishing vessel Joseph F. Bellows, which served as USS Joseph F. Bellows (SP-323) in 1917-1919.
