John A. Palmer, Jr., a 282 gross ton "Menhaden Fisherman" type fishing vessel, was built at Wilmington, Delaware in 1911. Acquired by the Navy and placed in commission as USS John A. Palmer, Jr. (SP-319), she was used for patrol and communications cable support in the Chesapeake Capes and Hampton Roads area during and after World War I. In January 1919 her name was changed to SP-319, and in September she was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard. As USCGC Pequot the former fishing vessel served along the U.S. East Coast as a cable ship until mid-1922, when she was sold.
This page features the only view we have concerning the fishing vessel John A. Palmer, Jr., which served as USS John A. Palmer, Jr. (SP-319) in 1917-1919.
