Mercedita (Steamship, 1861-1901);
Served as USS Mercedita during 1861-1865

Mercedita, an 840-ton screw steamer, was built at Brooklyn, New York, in 1861. She was purchased by the U.S. Navy in July of that year and served during the Civil War as USS Mercedita. Sold by the Navy in October 1865, she soon reentered merchant service under the same name. She was converted to a sailing vessel in 1879 and to a barge in 1900. The old ship was lost in 1901.
