Metacomet (American Steamship, 1854).
Served as USS Pulaski in 1858-1863

Metacomet, a 395-ton (burden) side-wheel steamship, was built at New York City in 1854 for commercial owners. She was chartered by the Navy in 1858 for use in the Paraguay expedition and placed in commission as USS Pulaski. Subsequently purchased, she operated in South American waters from early 1859 until January 1863, when she was sold at Montevideo, Uruguay. From then until about 1870 she operated on the River Plate as a civilian vessel.

This page features our only view of the steamship Metacomet, which served as USS Pulaski in 1858-1863.
