S.S. Munrio (American Freighter, 1916)
Served as USS Munrio (ID # 2054) in 1918-1919. Later S.S. Szent Gellert, Carola, Mary Louise, Maria L., Tropic, and Nerina.

Munrio, a 3868 gross ton (8330 tons displacement) freighter, was built at Sparrows Point, Maryland, in 1916. She was commissioned at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 14 November 1918 as USS Munrio (ID # 2054). Departing Philadelphia later in November, she delivered a cargo of Army supplies at Le Havre, France, in December. She then loaded Army return cargo at Plymouth, England, and brought it back to Philadelphia in January. USS Munrio was decommissioned on 3 February 1919 and delivered to the U.S. Shipping Board for simultaneous return to her owners, the Munson Steamship Company of New York City.

During a long post-World War I commercial career Munrio was renamed Szent Gellert in 1937, Carola in 1940, Mary Louise in 1946, and successively during 1950 Maria L., Tropic, and Nerina. The ship was wrecked near Santa Cruz del Norte, Cuba, on 25 November 1950.

This page features the only views we have concerning the American freighter Munrio, USS Munrio (ID # 2054), and S.S. Szent Gellert, Carola, Mary Louise, Maria L., Tropic, and Nerina.
