Qui Vive, 45-foot motor boat, was constructed in 1916 at Alexandria Bay, New York, as a pleasure craft. She was chartered by the Navy in June 1917 and commissioned as USS Qui Vive (SP-1004). Though initially assigned to section patrol service, the craft spent most of her Navy career as a hospital boat at Norfolk, Virginia. She was returned to her owner in June 1919.
