Takana (American Harbor Tug, 1915).
Served as USS Takana (ID # 3039) in 1918-1919

Takana, a 68 gross ton wooden steam harbor tug, was built in 1915 at Solomons Island, Maryland. She was chartered by the Navy in July 1918 and operated as USS Takana (ID # 3039) in the New York Harbor area for the rest of World War I, and for several months after the Armistice. The tug was returned to her owner in June 1919.

Photographed prior to her World War I Navy service. The steamship Aragon is in the background.
Acquired by the U.S. Navy on 2 July 1918, this tug served as USS Takana (ID # 3039) until returned to her owner on 13 June 1919.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.
