Vaud J., a 101-foot motor boat, was built in 1907 at Wildwood, New Jersey, for use as a pleasure craft. Though rejected for Navy service when first inspected in April 1917, she was reevaluated in September 1918 and taken over at that time. Placed in service as Vaud J. (SP-3361), she was subsequently employed at the Naval Proving Ground, Indian Head, Maryland. The boat was sold at the end of June 1919 and returned to civilian pursuits, operating in the Chesapeake Bay region and, after the mid-1920s, in the Delaware Bay area. Vaud J. was apparently discarded in about 1932.
This page features our only view of the motor boat Vaud J., which served in the U.S. Navy as Vaud J. (SP-3361) in 1918-1919.
