Steamship Yorktown (1853-1865).
Later CSS Patrick Henry

Yorktown, a 1300-ton side-wheel steamship, was built in New York City in 1853. She operated in the passenger and cargo trade between New York and Richmond, Virginia, until April 1861, when she was seized by the State of Virginia. Converted to a warship, she was renamed Patrick Henry for service in the Confederate Navy, which continued until she was destroyed on 3 April 1865.

This page features our only views of the steamship Yorktown, which became CSS Patrick Henry in 1861.

For views of this ship as a Confederate warship, see: CSS Patrick Henry (1861-1865).
