Zoraya (American Steam Yacht, 1901).
Served as USS Zoraya (SP-235) in 1917-1919

Zoraya, a 129 gross ton steam yacht, was built in 1901 at Port Jefferson, New York. She was leased by the Navy in August 1917 and placed in commission in December of that year as USS Zoraya (SP-235). For the rest of World War I she performed patrol duties off New York and New Jersey, and was returned to her owner in February 1919.

This page features our only view of the steam yacht Zoraya, which served as USS Zoraya (SP-235) in 1917-1919.

Zoraya
(American Steam Yacht, 1901)

Photographed prior to her World War I era Navy service.
This yacht was acquired by the Navy on 16 August 1917 and commissioned on 17 December 1917 as USS Zoraya (SP-235). She was returned to her owner on 8 February 1919.

The original photograph is in Record Group 19-LCM in the National Archives.
