Lemnos (Battleship, 1914-1941)
Name also transliterated as Limnos

Lemnos, a 13,000 ton battleship, was originally the USS Idaho (Battleship # 24). Sold to Greece in 1914, she was among the Greek navy ships temporarily seized by France in 1916 as part of an effort to install a favorable government in Athens. Lemnos was active in Turkish waters during the chaotic period following the end of the First World War. She passed out of active service during the 1930s, but was retained as a hulk. On 23 April 1941, during the German invasion of Greece, Lemnos was sunk at the Salamis naval base by German dive bombers.

This page features views of the Greek battleship Lemnos.
