Argentina Maru, a 12,755-ton troop transport, was built as a civilian passenger liner at Nagasaki, Japan. Completed in 1939, she was requisitioned in 1941 and served as a transport during the first year of the Pacific war. In December 1942-November 1943, she was converted to an aircraft carrier and was renamed Kaiyo.
