Munsan (LST, lost in 1950)

Munsan, a former U.S. Navy landing ship tank that one source describes as a merchant ship, took part in a raid into enemy-held territory in mid-September 1950, during the Korean War. While landing a South Korean guerilla team, she broached in the surf and was lost when salvagers were unable to pull her off. Photographic evidence indicates that Munsan was the former USS LST-120, which had been sold to the Military Government of Korea in February 1947.

This page features views of the loss of the Korean LST Munsan in September 1950.

Numbers visible inside Munsan's bow opening indicate that she may be the former USS LST-120, which was transferred to the Department of State in 1947.
