USS Abalone (SP-208), 1917-1918.
Originally the Civilian Motor Boat Abalone

Abalone, a 60-foot motor pleasure boat, was built at Morris Heights, New York, in 1913. She was leased by the Navy in late April 1917 and placed in commission the following month as USS Abalone (SP-208). During the rest of World War I, she operated on patrol service in the Long Island Sound area, based at New Haven, Connecticut. The craft was returned to her owner just before Christmas 1918.

This page features our only views of USS Abalone (SP-208) and of the civilian motor boat Abalone.
