USS V-3 (SF-6), 1926-1945, Later renamed Bonita (SS-165) --
Construction, 1921-1926

USS V-3 was built at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, Maine. Last of a class of three submarines intended to operate closely with the battle fleet, her keel was laid on 16 November 1921, and she was launched on 9 June 1925. V-3's sponsor, Mrs. Louis R. DeSteiguer, was married to a Navy Rear Admiral. The submarine was placed in commission on 22 May 1926.
