USS Cossack (SP-695), 1917-1919.
Originally the Civilian Motor Boat Cossack (1916)

USS Cossack, a 64-foot patrol craft, was built in 1916 by George Lawley & Sons of Neponset, Massachusetts, as the civilian-owned motor pleasure boat of the same name. She was acquired by the Navy in April 1917 for World War I service and placed in commission at the beginning of May. From then until October 1918 Cossack was assigned to patrol duty in the Boston area, then was transferred to the Third Naval Distict, probably for service in the vicinity of New York City. Stricken by the Navy in late March 1919, she was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard in November 1919. As USCGC Cossack (renamed AB-3 in November 1923), she was stationed at Tampa, Florida, until destroyed by fire in May 1925.

This page features the only views we have concerning USS Cossack (SP-695) and the civilian motor boat Cossack.
