USS Cero (SS-225), 1943-1970

USS Cero, a 1526-ton Gato class submarine built at Groton, Connecticut, was commissioned in July 1943. Following a brief shakedown, she was sent to the Pacific. Between September 1943 and July 1945, Cero made eight war patrols, during which she sank several Japanese ships, transported personnel and supplies to Philippines guerillas and rescued downed U.S. aviators. In October 1945, Cero visited Louisiana ports for victory celebrations.

Cero was inactivated in June 1946 but recommissioned for Korean War service in February 1952. She was employed on training and experimental duties out of Key West, Florida, until her final decommissioning in December 1953. Cero was stricken from the Navy List in June 1967 and sold in October 1970.

This page features views of USS Cero's crew during her 1943 shakedown period. It also provides information on views that may be available from another source.
